The formula is: Inventory Turnover = Cost of Goods Sold / Average Dollar Value of Inventory On-hand. Turning inventory fast is good for cash flow and profits.</p><p><span id="more-2000"></span></p><p>How to Double Profits on the Same Investment</p><p>Here is a simplified example of inventory turns:  let’s say that all you have in inventory is one dress, which you bought for $75.  You plan to sell the dress for $300.  The dress hangs on the rack for one year until someone buys it.  Your gross profit is $225 on your inventory investment of $75. But, let us say you sell the dress in six months for $300, re-invest your original $75 into another dress, and sell it six months later. You have now turned your inventory twice in the same accounting period. Your inventory investment at any given time was only $75, but now in the same period (one year) you have made $450 gross profit on your $75 inventory investment.
