How Businesses Are Celebrating Earth Day

Today is the 40th annual Earth Day.  Every year, since 1970, April 22, has been set aside as a day to promote education on preserving and caring for our planet and committing to take action throughout the year.   “Earth Day 2010 can be a turning point to advance climate policy, energy efficiency, renewable energy and green jobs,” as stated on the official Earth Day website.

Businesses all over are hosting events, contests and activities in honor of earth day and greenbiz.com gives examples of just a few, including some of the following:

Microsoft: Hosting e-waste events on its campuses.

Xerox: Offering community building events at some of its locations, i.e. e-waste collection drive, free home energy audits, “exhibiting super-efficient” cars.

Telecommuting

Hewlett-Packard: Hosting events around the U.S. including Earth Day fairs at its Cupertino and Roseville, Calif. Facilities.

Cartridge World: Encouraging those in the local community to reuse printer cartridges and educating them of the benefits.

Small businesses can also take strides to saving the environment, such as going green and allowing employees to telecommute when possible.
