Learning from the Presidents

President’s day was initially created to celebrate the birthdays of two presidents, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln (both born in the month of February) who made great strides in American history.  However, as a business owner, this day can serve as a reminder of the importance and impact of great leadership, as there are lessons in leadership that can be learned from all 44 presidents of the United States.

Inc.com published a slideshow of 10 lessons that small business owners can take from those who have held the title of President of the United States of America.

  1. Don’t doubt your own authority.
  2. Build on what makes you unique.
  3. Balance idealism with pragmatism.
  4. Embrace innovation for the sake of innovation.
  5. Consider the needs of others as well as your own.
  6. Focus on how you communicate change.
  7. View your rivals as partners.
  8. Don’t lose sense of your priorities.
  9. The cover-up is always worse than the crime.
  10. Bring a sense of optimism to everything you do.
